The Volgenau School of Information Technology & Engineering is dedicated to providing a quality undergraduate education in support of the needs of Virginia and the nation. As Dean of Undergraduate Studies at the school, Dr. E. Bernard White strives to make the school's undergraduate degree programs among the top in the nation and to recruit high-quality students. In addition, White monitors undergraduate academic progress, identifying opportunities for student professional growth and development, and encouraging collaboration with other George Mason University academic units.

Dr. White brings wide experience to his role as Associate Dean. Before coming to Mason, he worked as a systems engineer at The MITRE Corporation and as an assistant professor and research engineer at Howard University. He is a member of the Advisory Committee for GMU Admissions, the Fairfax County Public Schools Expanding Vision Advisory Board, the GMU Minority Advisory Board, the GMU/NVCC Inter-Institutional Advisory Committee, the IT&E Undergraduate Studies Committee, the Provost Committee on Student Retention, the Student Academic Affairs Advisory Committee, and the University Scholars Program Selection Committee. In addition, Dr. White advises IT&E's Engineering Student Council and the university's chapters of the National Society of Black Engineers, the Armed Forces Electronics and Communications Association and the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers. He is a member of the Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, the American Society for Engineering Education, the Institution for Operations Research and Management Science, Tau Beta Pi and is on the Board of the Armed Forces Electronics and Communications Association.

Dr. White received his B.S. in mathematics from Mississippi Industrial College, his M.S. in mathematics from the University of Illinois-Urbana, his M.S. in Systems Engineering from Howard University, and his Ph.D. in Systems Engineering from the University of Virginia. He is an associate professor in the Systems Engineering and Operations Research Department of the school.
