Alumni and FriendsOffice of Development and Alumni RelationsThe Office of Development and Alumni Relations in Volgenau School of Engineering obtains private funding from alumni, friends, corporations and foundations, and serves to enhance relations and promote communication with alumni and friends of the School. In cooperation with the Dean, the office directs and supervises all fund-raising activities, including annual, capital and planned-gift programs, as well as plans and implements alumni programs. Fund-raising for Volgenau School of Engineering Private fund-raising is critical to Volgenau School of Engineering to help support programs and initiatives. Becoming a more prominent leader in technology and engineering, the School relies on continuous support from its many alumni, friends, and corporate partners. A contribution: • Helps to establish named professorships, enabling Volgenau School of Engineering to retain its excellent faculty. Increasing student interest in the field of engineering and technology has meant greater enrollment in the School; professorships are needed more than ever. • Helps us keep pace with technology and maintain our dedication to excellence in teaching. Volgenau School of Engineering is dedicated to ensuring that our students are familiar with a wide range of technology to help them meet the challenges they will face in the workplace. • Creates scholarships that reward students for excellence in the classroom. Scholarship opportunities attract better students, raising academic standards and enhancing the reputation of the School. • Supports programs that might send students to conferences and competitions. Another important kind of contribution to Volgenau School of Engineering is unrestricted funding. Unrestricted funding is exceedingly important to meet the general operating expenses of the School and helps plan for Volgenau School of Engineering's expansion and growth as student needs and enrollment increase over time. Unrestricted funding is Volgenau School of Engineering's most flexible and most urgently needed type of support. Alumni Relations Our more than 12,000 alumni live and work all over the world, but more than 80% live in the greater metropolitan area of Washington, DC. Volgenau School of Engineering has an Alumni Development Committee, which participates actively in School affairs by supporting the School and attending events that benefit the School. Members encourage other alumni to contribute to the School and to continue their life-long relationship with Volgenau School of Engineering by attending events and supporting student programs.
