Activity at Engineers Week

Engineers Week (formerly Engineers Day) will be held at the Volgenau School to coincide with National Engineers Week, February 18-23, 2013. This week will showcase our students, faculty, corporate partners and alumni!



Scheduled Events:

Each day of Engineers week is geared towards a specific department. If your company’s schedule is flexible, choose a day that corresponds with students you recruit.

Monday 2/18:


10am-12pm PHD Research and Grad Fair – a showcase of our Graduate Students’ research and our grad programs in the atrium of the Engineering Building

11-12: “Why Go to Mason for Graduate School?” Info Session with Jade Perez, Director of Graduate Admissions at the Volgenau School. Open to anyone interested in applying to graduate programs, will be held in the Computer Science Conference Room 4201. (Register here!)

12-1pm Kickoff to Engineers Week with Dean Ball in the Atrium. Join the celebration of the first day of this new event! Come for food and music, all are welcome!
Free E-Week Shirts and Fro-yo in the Atrium - get your ticket for food in the Deans Office

1-4pm Student Organization fair in the Atrium – a showcase of all the student organizations at the Volgenau School and a chance for them to recruit new members. Meet our student org leaders and learn more about their chapters. All are welcome.

4-6pm Time available for 1-2 companies to give Info Sessions or Tech talks. Space is available in conference rooms in the Engineering building, a central location for our students. All rooms are equipped with AV and projectors.

5PM Information Session with Deloitte - Nguyen Engineering Building Room 1602

Tuesday 2/19: Spotlight on CIVIL ENGINEERING DAY

*also Day 1 of University Wide Career Fair

9:30am How to Dress for an Interview Breakfast (Nguyen Engineering Building, Computer Science Conference Room 4201) with SAIC and SWE in the CS Conference Room. Store sponsored Fashion Show. Sign in and networking start at 9:30, talk begins at 10am. For students only. (Register Here)

1:30pm Bridge Building with ASCE*: a fun competition and a showcase of ASCE’s two bridges as well as a casual marshmallow and toothpick competition, open to everyone! Held in Research Hall rm 163.
Let us know if you company would like to sponsor this event.
*Students from local schools will visit campus and attend this event

12-6pm Visiting Companies in the Nguyen Engineering Building Atrium
Visiting Companies: Triad Engineering, Dewberry, ECS, Balfour Beatty
Info sessions with Triad and ECS in rooms 1602 and 2901


Wednesday 2/20: Spotlight on SYSTEMS ENGINEERING DAY

*also Day 2 of University Wide Career Fair

10am-12pm SEOR Senior Design Projects in Nguyen Engineering Building Room 2901. Learn about their research and give them feedback as they prepare for their graded presentations.

1:30-5:30pm Visiting Companies in the Nguyen Engineering Building Atrium
Visiting Companies: Cvent, SAIC, TASC, Net App, Deloitte
Info sessions with TASC and Deloitte in rooms 1602 and 2901

5:30pm – Women in Engineering Event in Research Hall Rm 163. Talk to five industry women and learn about their experiences in their professional career. Appetizers served. Thursday 2/21: Spotlight on ELECTRIC, COMPUTER and BIO ENGINEERING DAY

Also – National “Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day” *

10-1pm: TCOM, BIO, ECE and CE Undergrad Projects displays and presentations in atrium and conference rooms. Learn about the diverse research of these students.

1pm: Tours of Bio Labs and EE and CEE robotics displays – meet the faculty and see the labs up close.

1-6pm Visiting Companies in the Nguyen Engineering Building Atrium
Visiting Companies: Fluke, Mitre, Time Warner

6pm Info session with Harris in Room 2901 - Free Pizza!

*Girls Scout Troop on Campus, hosted by student members of SHPE and SWE.




Friday 2/22: Spotlight on COMPUTER SCIENCE, ACS & AIT DAY


10-12pm: AIT Capstone presentations and displays in Atrium and Conference Rooms. Learn about their research and give them feedback as they prepare for their graded presentations.

12-6pm Visiting Companies in the Nguyen Engineering Building Atrium
Visiting Companies: CVENT, Fluke, GD AID, NextCentury, M.C.Dean, CGI, TASC, Harris
Info sessions with Triad and ECS

12pm Lunch with Deloitte in Room 1602

2pm Gaming Competition with GADIG – Play games our students have created! Email Charbold@gmu.edu if you are interested in partnering with GADIG and sponsoring this event and providing a tournament prize. Event held in Nguyen Engineering Building Room 2901
