Mechanical Engineering Department

Mechanical engineers build the things that make life better. They have the versatility to look at the world in new ways and find solutions to problems. At Mason, you’ll become the person who makes a difference

Combine Science with Creativity

Mason’s programs ignite your creative and critical thinking skills. Our courses emphasize mechanics, thermodynamics, materials science, systems control, and mechatronics. You’ll be able to:

  • Design and create systems.

  • Improve and adapt existing tools.

  • Overcome obstacles to project goals.

  • Learn and develop teamwork skills.

Mechanical engineering encompasses such fields as chemistry, physics, electricity, and computing. Your skills can be applied across a wide range of career choices, and you can build that career almost anywhere in the world.

Career Options
Aerospace Biomedical
Nanotechnology Manufacturing
Automotive Sustainable energy
Robotics  Automation

You’ll not only be able to adapt to innovations and advances in these fields, but to originate those changes.

Faculty Share Their Expertise, Connections

You won’t just study in a classroom; you’ll work in labs and in the field. Our faculty members are experts in thermal and fluid sciences, micro/nano mechanics, photonics, tribology, and energy-water nexus.

Faculty members will also help you obtain career-boosting internships. Our students have gained professional experience at such companies as:
