This award, one of George Mason's highest and most prestigious, was offered to a Mason senior whose selfless service to others is an inspiration to us all. Students who win this award demonstrate a commitment to placing service to others before themselves; integrity in thought and action; leadership and character; and responsibility, determination, courage, and compassion. Jade's nomination mentioned her computerized bear to help autistic children, her STARs experience, and her work with the MakersSpace.

The Algernon Sydney Sullivan Foundation sponsors two awards (one for a man and one for a woman) at 68 schools in the American South to honor the lives of the husband and wife for which they are named. These awards also honor the Sullivans' commitment to empower, educate, and honor deserving students in the American South.

This is the first year that George Mason has been a Sullivan School, authorized by the Sullivan Foundation to give these awards. That makes Jade the inaugural recipient of the Mary Mildred Sullivan Award at George Mason.
