This year’s Engineers Week promises more events and activities than ever. The week kicks off with the sold out Youth Conference for students of all ages and their parents on the weekend of February 19. Events wrap up on Friday at the JC Cinema with the screening of “Dream Big” and announcement of the winner of the week-long competition for the Engineers Week Cup.
Throughout the week the Atrium of the Nguyen Building will be hopping with activity. Watch construction of a steel bridge, compete in the egg drop, or create your own water distribution system.
“We encourage everyone to stop by and see what is going on,” said Acting Chair of the Sid and Reva Dewberry Department of Civil, Environmental, and Infrastructure Engineering, Liza Durant. “Whether you are an English major attending a class in the Jajodia Auditorium, student, staff, or faculty, come and see the trans-disciplinary nature of engineering.”
Department Chair of Mechanical Engineering, Oscar Barton believes that one of the week’s highlights will be the Keynote on Tuesday evening. “Dr. Karl Reid’s life story is amazing and his commitment to providing access to engineering for women and minorities is astonishing. When I heard him speak, I left wondering what I could do better.”
