Melissa Lobaccaro receives George Mason Provost Scholar Award

Melissa Lobaccaro won the Provost's Scholar Award for the third consecutive year in 2018.

Civil Engineering student Melissa Lobaccaro (BS ’17) is the recipient of the George Mason Provost ScholarAward for the third consecutive year. The Provost Scholar Athlete Award, initiated in 2009 by Mason Provost Emeritus, Dr. Peter Stearns, recognizes the scholarly accomplishments of student athletes with a GPA of 3.75 or higher. Lobaccaro, number 26 on Masons’ Women’s Lacrosse team, played attack for the team during all four of her years at Mason.  The team finished this year with a 12-5 record, the best record in the team’s history. Overall, the team finished 2nd in the Atlantic 10 (their conference) with 7 wins, the most in program history.  

“Mellissa is not only a scholar-athlete, she is an exemplar of student leadership,” said Liza Wilson Durant, acting department chair.  "She has been an outstanding member and now serves as treasurer of the Student Chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineering (ASCE). This role is key to our participation and success in our Steel Bridge  and the Concrete Canoe competitions.”
