Andy Sage Capstone Competition to take place in April

Mason Engineering’s Department of Systems Engineering and Operations Research will host its second annual Andrew Sage Capstone Competition on April 29. The event will begin with a keynote at 9 a.m. and concludes with a banquet and shark tank competition where aspiring student entrepreneurs will make pitches to judges from 5 to 7 p.m.

The competition is a student-focused international forum for the design of complex systems and a leading showcase for undergraduate and graduate (master’s) design projects. Projects may include those from capstone design courses or from baccalaureate, honors, or design-oriented graduate theses.

The event honors Andrew P. Sage, the founding dean of the Volgenau School, a pioneer and leader in systems engineering, a prolific author, and a dedicated educator.

“Sage had an extraordinary impact on the school,” says John Shortle, department chairman. “It’s appropriate that we honor him with this event.”
