Biography

Teaching artificial intelligence to learn.

Jan Allbeck has experimented in many aspects of computer graphics, but the opportunity to combine research in animation, artificial intelligence and psychology has brought new light to a crossroads in the simulation of virtual humans. She is the faculty advisor for the undergraduate concentration in Computer Game Design and the director of the Games and Intelligent Animation laboratory. Allbeck’s research posits that if the primary role of virtual agents in a crowd is to behave like real humans, they ought to make human-like decisions prompted by sensory perception, and build “knowledge” from working memory.
