YouTube Contest on Engineering Consulting Open to All Students

Engineering students can enter to win an iPad Mini and meet Virginia's engineering industry leaders by entering a contest sponsored by the American Council of Engineering Companies of Virginia. The contest's purpose is to have Virginia egineering students develop a creative presentation that promotes the engineering consulting industry.

HOW TO ENTER
1. Become a fan of the ACEC Virginia Facebook Page.
 
2. Read full criteria (see below)
 
3. Make a two-minute video about consulting engineering. Suggested topics may include, but not limited to:
 
 Why do you want to be a consulting engineer?
 Why do you think consulting engineering is great?
 How does consulting engineering change lives?
 How does consulting engineering shape our world?
 
4. Submit your video to the ACEC Virginia YouTube Channel, beforeDecember 1, 2014 by following the steps below:
a. Upload your video to YouTube
b. Confirm your submission by emailing cwhite@acecva.org the link to your YouTube video and be sure to include your name, university, engineering specialty and contact information.
c. Your video will become a "favorite" video on the ACEC Virginia YouTube Channel after being reviewed by the ACEC Virginia Staff.
 
5. Wait to hear if you won an iPad Mini and the opportunity to meet the leaders of the Virginia engineering industry.

CRITERIA
1. Overview. The purpose of the contest is to have Virginia engineering students submit a video about consulting engineering. By submitting a video on the YouTube Contest Page, you agree to place your video online for public viewing and potential sharing. All entries will be screened for appropriateness and those deemed ineligible will be removed immediately. Each submission must be about consulting engineering. Creativity and presentation skills will be taken into consideration. Participants are encouraged to do their own research on the industry of consulting engineering in putting together a convincing case.
 
2. Contest officially ends on December 1, 2014 at midnight EST.
 
3. Participants must be currently enrolled in an engineering program at an accredited Virginia university. Undergraduate and graduate students are welcome to enter.
 
4. Participants must become a fan of the ACEC Virginia Facebook Page.
 
5. By entering this contest, you agree to allow ACEC Virginia to share your video on ACEC Virginia social media pages, including, but not limited to, Facebook and Google+. The video may also be used for promotional purposes by ACEC Virginia. ACEC Virginia cannot be held responsible for:
• Consequences resulting from sharing your video publicly on the internet
• How or where your video is shared by others beyond our social media pages
• Comments made by other parties about you or your video
 
6. Prize. The contest winner will win a 16GB iPad Mini (approximate retail value $299) and will be recognized and invited to the 2015 Engineering Excellence Awards on February 5, 2015, in Richmond, VA. The winner will also be interviewed for an article in the ACEC Virginia's monthly newsletter.
 
7. Disqualification. ACEC Virginia reserves the right to disqualify any video it deems inappropriate. Examples include, but are not limited to, profanity, racist or sexual comments or imagery.
 
8. Length. Videos should be no longer than 2 minutes in length and should clearly be about consulting engineering.
 
9. Judging/ Judging Criteria. Judging will occur in December 2014. The panel of judges consists of leaders in the consulting engineering industry, ACEC Virginia's Next Generation Committee and ACEC Virginia staff. Judges will vote on the following criteria:
• Ability to answer the contest question clearly
• Ability to make a convincing case
• Creativity and presentation skills
• Number of video "views" on YouTube
The video which excels in all identified criteria will win the competition.
 
10. Disclaimer. The intent of the contest is not to secure employment. The contest's objective is to foster a greater understanding of Virginia's Consulting Engineering industry so students are aware of opportunities that exist for them in the industry upon graduation. No compensation will be awarded to any contestant other than the prize advertised.
