If you are planning to earn an Associate of Science degree from NVCC and want to earn a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering the NOVA Compact may be for you.
Volgenau students participate in all kinds of engineering challenges. During Engineers Week 2016, they hosted an egg drop challenge in the school's atrium.
Program Advantages
Coordinated Academic Advising — Receive personalized academic advising from both NOVA and Mason Engineering advisors to ensure that you complete the correct sequence of courses leading to your B.S. in Mechanical Engineering
Dual Admission — Enroll in up to two engineering courses offered through the BSME program at Mason. With joint Mason-NOVA agreement, you only take a course using this option if the desired course is not available at NOVA or is not being offered in the semester in which you register
Smooth Transition —Meet regularly with Volgenau School faculty and staff and become familiar with Mason's academic policies so you know which upper-level courses you will need to complete for the B.S. in Mechanical Engineering when you start at Mason
Library Access — Access to the vast resources of Mason's Fenwick Library
Programs — Participate in Volgenau School of Engineering Day events in addition to specific programs sponsored by the Department of Mechanical Engineering
Student Outreach — Engage with student organizations such as American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Engineers for International Development (EFiD), National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), Society of Hispanic Engineers (SHPE), Society of Women Engineers (SWE), etc. participate in internships and Co-operative education programs
Eligibility
The Dual Admission Compact is designed for students who:
Plan to earn an Associate of Science (A.S.) degree from Northern Virginia Community College
Plan to pursue the Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Mechanical Engineering in the Volgenau School of Engineering within one year of completing the A.S. degree
Maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.50
Earn a grade of C or better in all attempted Chemistry, Math, Physics, or Engineering course required for the Associate’s in Science degree

Complete the Mason-NOVA Dual Admission Compact for Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering Application
Send your current transcripts to admissions via myNOVA
When you are ready for dual admission, complete the application for MASON-NOVA Compact Dual Admission by applying for non-degree status and selecting the Mechanical Engineering Compact when asked "Were you invited to participate in one of the following special enrollment programs?"
To gain the best experience from the Compact, students should apply before they have earned 18 credits
